It’s just a thing we do, right? A little celebratory gesture. But have you ever stopped to think <em>why</em> we actually do that? Because the history behind it is actually pretty wild and, honestly, a little dark, in a fun historical sort of way!</p> <p>Way back in the day, especially in ancient Rome and Greece, the whole idea of drinking together wasn&rsquo;t always just about good times and camaraderie. There was a constant underlying suspicion, especially among powerful people. Poisoning was a very real, very common threat in those times. Imagine sitting at a banquet, trying to enjoy your wine, but in the back of your mind, you&rsquo;re wondering if your host, or even a rival guest, has slipped something nasty into your cup. Yikes!</p>
