&lt;p&gt;What you&amp;rsquo;re really smelling are chemical compounds called &amp;lsquo;chloramines.&amp;rsquo; These form when the chlorine in the water – which, yes, &lt;em&gt;is&lt;/em&gt; there to sanitize and kill germs – reacts with all the organic stuff that swimmers bring into the pool. And by &amp;lsquo;stuff,&amp;rsquo; I mean things like sweat, body oils, skin cells, sunscreen residue, and&amp;hellip; yes, sometimes even a tiny bit of pee.
