Did You Know Most of Everything Is... Empty Space?

Did you know that the vast majority of everything around us, and even inside us, is actually… empty space? I mean, like, really, really empty. It sounds wild, but if you think about it, atoms, the tiny building blocks that make up literally everything—your coffee cup, the chair you’re sitting on, even you and me—are mostly empty. We’re talking about a super-dense, tiny nucleus at the center, surrounded by electrons zipping around it at incredibly high speeds, and the space in between them is enormous in comparison. To put it into perspective, if the nucleus of an atom were the size of a blueberry, the nearest electron might be over a mile away!

Now, here’s where it gets truly mind-bending: if you could somehow compress all the atoms in every single person on Earth, squeezing out all that empty space so that only the incredibly dense nuclei and electrons remained, the entire human population of our planet—that’s billions of people—would collectively shrink down to something the size of… a single apple! It’s a truly wild thought that we’re essentially just shimmering collections of nearly nothing, held together by forces we barely understand. It totally changes how you think about ‘solid’ objects, doesn’t it?
